2014 FIFA World Cup qualification (CONCACAF)

The associations of the North and Central American and Caribbean Football Confederation ( CONCACAF ) have three fixed seats for the soccer World Cup in 2014, who were able to secure the United States, Costa Rica and Honduras. Another World Cup participants was determined in a decision match against intercontinental oceanic representatives of New Zealand (OFC ). This comparison won Mexico and thus also qualified herself for the World Cup finals.

To qualify, all 35 associations of CONCACAF, which are also members of the World Federation FIFA reported. The Bahamas withdrew after the first round back from the competition.

FIFA regulations

According to FIFA regulations the preliminaries in the form of group matches and cup matches were played in each round-trip games or in exceptional cases a tournament in one of the countries involved. In the group matches three points were awarded for a win and one for a draw. It decided the following criteria:

Had two teams according to these criteria the same cut, a play could be recognized. This case did not occur.

In the cup games counted in Torgleichheit after the two games, the higher number of away goals scored. Was also the number of goals scored away equal, extra time was played. If the extension was no goal, the encounter was decided on penalties. With the same number of goals in extra time, the away team qualified due to more away goals scored.

Mode

Qualifying CONCACAF was played in four rounds. First, in a knockout round were the set to place 26 to 35 teams against each other to reduce the number of teams to 30. In the second round, the set on place 7 to 25 organizations as well as the five qualifiers of the first round were six groups of four that make up each of the first group for the 3rd round of qualifying. In the 3rd round then boarded the six top-ranked teams in the qualification. The twelve teams were divided into three groups of four from each of the two group best qualified for the fourth round. In the 4th round played the six remaining teams in the National League system to direct the three championship courses and the play- off place.

First round

In the first round of the ten in the FIFA World Ranking lowest-ranked teams in the knockout system with back and leg competed against each other. The five winners of the first round were advancing to the second round.

Had not the situation normalizes, Belize would have been excluded from the qualifying competition. 3 Since there is no suitable venue to Anguilla, Anguilla from the home game at the Estadio Panamericano de Fútbol de San Cristóbal was held in the Dominican Republic.

Second Round

The draw for the qualifying groups was held in Rio de Janeiro on 30 July 2011.

Fourth round

The three group winners and runners-up of the third round were a group of six. It was played from February 2013 league system with home and away matches. The first three teams to qualify directly for the World Cup 2014. The fourth-placed team qualified for the intercontinental playoffs against the winner of the OFC qualification, New Zealand.
