2014 PDC World Darts Championship

The Ladbrokes World Darts Championship was held on 13 December 2013 to 1 January 2014 in its 21st edition of the Professional Darts Corporation. Venue was the seventh time the Alexandra Palace in London. Defending champion was the 14 -time PDC World Champion Phil Taylor, but in the 2nd round lost to his compatriot Michael Smith.

The tournament was played in the set system, each set it went on best of five legs.

On German television sports transferred 1, the PDC World Darts Championship live. The pay- TV channel Sport 1 showed the games live and in full.

In the final, the Dutchman Michael van Gerwen sat by 7:4 against the Scots Peter Wright and thus took his first world title. He is the youngest world champion in the PDC World Darts Championship story and simultaneously replaces Phil Taylor at the top of the PDC world rankings.

Statistics

On 2 tournament in the world championship two nine darters were thrown. Terry Jenkins and Kyle Anderson succeeded each only an hour's the perfect game. However, both players lost their game and eliminated from the tournament. Terry Jenkins also scored the highest with 170 points finish, the first [ ... ] the World Cup. Wes Newton also achieved the highest finish with two triple 20 and bulls eye in the spectacular first quarter-final on the 13th day of the tournament against Peter Wright. However, he also lost the argument and thus different from the tournament.

602 times was thrown 180 points. This is a new PDC World Darts Championship record.

Prizes

A total of £ 1,080,000 was paid out in prize money. The prize money for the winner was raised for this year from £ 200,000 to £ 250,000. This is the highest ever prize money in the history of this sport.

Participant

For the PDC World Darts Championship 2014 a total of 72 players were qualified:

  • The 32 top-ranked players in the PDC Order of Merit
  • The 16 top-ranked players in the PDC Pro Tour Order of Merit who are not already eligible to participate on the PDC Order of Merit
  • The four top-ranked players in the PDC European Order of Merit not already qualified via one of the two aforementioned rankings
  • A further 17 international qualifiers
  • The highest-ranked player in the PDC Challenge Tour Order of Merit, which is not already qualified through one of the first three rankings
  • The winner and the finalist of a qualifying tournament, which is organized by the Professional Darts Players Association ( PDPA )

International qualifiers

  • Colin Osborne enlisted as a PDC Order of Merit after 35th place after the Phillipine qualifier Edward Santos was unable to start because of problems upon arrival.

Tournament schedule

Of the 72 participants compete in a 16 - round KO ( first round ). The eight winners then complete the 64 players complete the main field, which is also in accordance with seedings play against each other in a knockout system.

Preliminary round

The matches of the preliminary round were drawn on November 30, 2013. The preliminary round was played in the Best of Seven Legs format. The winners of the preliminary round played on the same day of their meeting in the first round of the main round.

The number after the player's name indicates the average score with three darts thrown to (3- dart average).
