2C (psychedelics)

2C ( 2C -x ) the material group name of the psychedelic phenethylamine, which have a methoxy group at the second and fifth position of the Phenethylaminstammstruktur. Most of these substances carry at the fourth position (para- substituted ) a lipophilic substituent affects the potency and the degradation of the substance. Many of these 2C- substances were first synthesized in the 1970/80er by Alexander Shulgin and in his book PIHKAL ( Phenethylamines i Have Known And Loved ) described. Shulgin is also the namesake of this group of substances, which the two carbon atoms ( carbon) designate between the benzene ring and the amino group. Some of these 2C- substances are used as ligands in the elucidation of structure-activity relationship in the 5-HT2A/2C-Rezeptoren.
