- Late summer: Battle of Vouillé at Poitiers; Victory of the Franks under Clovis I against the Visigoths under Alaric II, who falls in battle. The north of the Pyrenees situated part of Western Goth ( = Aquitaine ) was annexed by the Franks. Theodoric the Great, an ally of Alaric, had tried in vain in advance by a "Peace Letter " to prevent Clovis from attack.
- New king of the Visigoths of Alaric is the illegitimate son Gesalech; he can hold against the Franks only Septimania.
- The Ostrogothic king Theodoric the Great takes a portion of the Alemanni under his protection.
- After 507: Clovis I, the right of the people of the Salian Franks in the Salic Law can be codified.
