Islamic expansion
- July 6: The Muslims under Amr ibn al-As defeat at the Battle of Heliopolis, the Byzantines in Egypt. Alexandria can still claim to 642. Egypt will govern a province of the Umayyad, from Damascus.
- Caesarea Maritima falls as the last Byzantine stronghold in Palestine into Arab hands.

- To 640 dies of Aksumite king Armah. Other rulers are not used due to lack of coin finds. The Aksumite Empire is isolated but still up 916.
