66 Drive-In

66 Drive-In is a listed drive-in theater in Carthage in the U.S. state of Missouri. In 2003 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP ), the official cultural monument list of the U.S. federal government.

History

The original drive-in theater 66 Drive-In was opened shortly after its completion in September 1949 on Route 66 on the outskirts of the city of Carthage. The construction work was in early September 1949 with the completion of the 20 m (66 feet) high and almost 19 meters ( 62 feet ) wide steel construction completed and the two 15.2 m wide curtains. While the work that has been carried out by a construction company based in Joplin, MO, tons of steel were almost 30 installed. Furthermore, the arrangement of the parking, which was planned at this time for 500 cars, stepwise selected in order to have a better view of each car on the canvas. For associated earthworks a company from Neosho, MO has been commissioned. The owner of the drive-ins were in the founding period WD Bradfield and V.F. Naramore, both operated at that time the nearby Roxy Theatre.

With the 1948 musical film released Two Guys From Texas with Jack Carson and Dennis Morgan, the drive-in theater was opened. Already at that time possessed the 66 Drive-In has a snack bar and toilet facilities. The opening times were already divided similar to this time, as they still are today. At the premiere in the 66 Drive-In, there were technical difficulties, since one of the audio amplifier was not working and there were also problems with the light, also one of the projectors burned.

After the closing of drive-in theaters in 1974, it was over 20 years out of service and was only reopened in 1997. On April 2, 2003, the drive-in theater in the official cultural monument list of the U.S. government, the National Register of Historic Places, was added. Thus, it is a picture taken by over 60 in the list monuments in Jasper County. The 66 Drive-In is open each year from early April to mid-September and radiates from his films even in the rain.
