A Collection of Oldies ... but Goldies is the title of a published in December 1966 compilation album by the British band The Beatles.

Because of an early Christmas feast, it made sense to bring out an album. However, the Beatles were at that time on vacation and showed no interest, to interrupt this. John Lennon was in Spain at the filming of the movie How I won the war, directed by Richard Lester, George Harrison was in India, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr in North Africa in the Bahamas and Spain.

It was therefore decided to compile an album of older titles. For the shoppers in Europe brought A Collection of Oldies ... but Goldies at least one hitherto published only in the U.S. Title: a cover version of rock-' n'- roll- piece Bad Boy by Larry Williams.

So while it was only one previously not available outside the U.S. title on the LP, the record sold very well, but only managed to achieve - for a Beatles album at that time rather less high - sixth of the UK singles chart.

The release of this album followed in particular the aim to bring the published songs of the Beatles in the United Kingdom and the United States to a common denominator. So far, the distinguished British and the U.S. albums content significantly, resulting in that individual titles were unknown in the U.S. or in the UK. With the release of this album all Beatles pieces were published on both sides of the Atlantic. All then following album releases contained identical titles worldwide.

The title name " ... but Goldies " is an indication that six of the tracks on the LP in the UK had been awarded a gold record. Twelve of the pieces had been sold in the U.S., more than one million copies.

The cover design of the LP comes from David Christian, the photo on the back of Robert Whitaker.

The album has not been released on CD.
