Live at the BBC is an album by British rock band The Beatles. It was released on 30 November 1994 as a double album and contains live recordings of the group, which originated in radio concerts for the British broadcaster BBC in the years 1962 to 1965.

The Beatles and the BBC

It was the beginning of the year 1962, Brian Epstein, the manager of the Beatles was, trying the then little-known group outside Liverpool to a wider audience. One way to do that he saw in concert the Beatles in radio broadcasts of the BBC. So he asked for an audition appointment and received a commitment for 12 February 1962 at the BBC Broadcasting House in Manchester. The Beatles - at the time still with Pete Best on drums - passed the audition and were booked for their first shipment. The responsible producer Peter Pilbeam was there, however, unconvinced by the vocal performance of the bassist of the group: Paul McCartney. His overall judgment described the group as:

" ... Not as ' rocky ' than most, more country and western with a tendency to play music. "

On March 7, 1962, with the appearance in the show teen 's Turn - Here We Go, the three -year-long series of regular radio concerts by the Beatles for the BBC. The success of the Beatles later led to the fact that programs were produced specifically for the group. So four holiday special programs created under the title From Us to You - based on From Me to You, the title of the third single of the Beatles. In addition, the BBC produced a fifteen -part series entitled Pop Go The Beatles, an allusion to the well-known English nursery rhyme Pop Goes the Weasel.

On May 26, 1965, the last recordings of the Beatles for the BBC in London's Piccadilly Studios emerged. Broadcasted under the title The Beatles ( Invite You to Take a Ticket to Ride ) on 7 June 1965.

Overall, the Beatles recorded on 88 different songs for different broadcasts. Of these 32 songs compositions by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. The remaining pieces were cover versions of various musical styles, with most of the area rhythm and blues came from. The Beatles recorded 35 of these cover versions never for one of their studio albums, so they are only included on Live at the BBC. The Lennon / McCartney composition I'll Be on My Way was recorded only for the BBC.

The album contains 56 pieces, including 30 songs that are not included on the studio albums of the Beatles. Is completed the compilation of thirteen pieces with dialogues of the moderators with the Beatles from the various programs. The order of the pieces is not ordered chronologically throughout.
