A Night at the Roxbury is an American comedy film directed by John Fortenberry from the year 1998.
Action
The Los Angeles-based brothers Doug and Steve Butabi work at the flower shop her father Kamehl and live with their parents. They frequently visit nightclubs, where they try to conquer women. The neighboring business is conducted by Fred Sanderson, of a daughter, Emily, was of marriageable age. Kamehl hopes one of his sons would marry Emily and merge the businesses.
The brothers damage her father's car, whereupon it comes to family dispute. Meet Richard Grieco and come with him to the nightclub Roxbury. There they put the club owner Benny Zadir before some ideas. They learn to know women who think the brothers were wealthy.
Steve is forced to marry Emily. His brother interrupts the wedding. A friend of Steve offers to marry Emily; she agrees. Richard Grieco talks to Kamehl Butabi and promotes a greater understanding of his sons.
At the end Zadir opened a new club. He used in the design ideas of the brothers, received the shares in the club.
Reviews
Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun - Times of 2 October 1998, the comedy is not only unfunny, but even pathetic ( " A Night at the Roxbury ' probably never had a shot at being funny anyway, but I do not think Planned it to be pathetic "). She was the first seen by him comedy that conveys the feeling that laughter is cruel to the characters.
Anita Gates wrote in the New York Times of 2 October 1998, the film is how the characters of the brothers " undoubtedly poor ," but one could love him. Background
The characters are taken from the comedy show Saturday Night Live, but in which opposite Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan have starred Jim Carrey. The three formed the so-called " Roxbury Guys" and appeared in several skits of the show.
The film was shot in Los Angeles and the surrounding area. His cost of production was estimated at 17 million U.S. dollars. The film played in theaters in the USA a about 30.3 million U.S. dollars.
A special role is played by the song by Haddaway What Is Love in the film: At the beginning of the song in the background is heard while the brothers in various nightspots are trying their luck with the ladies and rhythmically shake their heads to the song. Later Doug interrupts the wedding of Steve and Emily, by turns a ghetto blaster and there What Is Love happens.
