Abraham Escudero Montoya

Abraham Escudero Montoya (born 24 January 1940 in Urrao, Colombia, † November 6, 2009 in Valle del Lili, Cali, Colombia) was Bishop of Palmira.

Life

Abraham Escudero Montoya studied at the seminary in Medellín and received on 8 June 1968, the ordination. He studied psychology at the Universidad de Antioquia and a doctorate in Spiritual Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He was Professor and Director of the Minor Seminary and Spiritual Director of the Seminary of Medellin. He has also acted as director of the Paul VI, transition house for youth ministry and was later Episcopal Vicar for Religious in the Archdiocese of Medellín.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 22 May 1986 as Titular Bishop of Risinium and appointed him auxiliary bishop in Medellin. He received his episcopal consecration on 21 June of the same year the Archbishop of Medellín, Alfonso Cardinal López Trujillo; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Buga, Rodrigo Arango Velásquez PSS, and José Roberto López Londoño, Auxiliary Bishop of Medellín.

He was on 30 April 1990 by Pope John Paul II appointed Bishop of Espinal and on 2 February 2007 by Pope Benedict VI. appointed Bishop of Palmira. He also served as Grand Chancellor of the Pontifical University Bolivariana.

At the age of 69 years he died of complications from diabetes on November 6, 2009 in the Department of Valle del Lili, Cali. The regional government of Valle del Cauca honored him with the official decree in 1520 posthumously for his socio-political commitment.
