Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia

The Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia ( ASSA ) is an Australian Academy of Science. As an autonomous non-governmental organization she dedicates herself to the advancement of knowledge and research in the social sciences. It was founded in 1971 and replaced the predecessor of the Social Science Research Council of Australia, established in 1942. About the Australian Council of Learned Academies ( Acola ), ASSA is cooperating with the Australian Academy of Science and other Australian science academies.

Researchers who have distinguished themselves academically, may be elected Fellows to the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia, abbreviated Fassa. There are currently over 500 carriers of this title.
