The Australian Academy of Sciences, ( en.: Australian Academy of Science ( AAS) ) is a non-governmental Academy of Sciences in Australia.

History

The AAS was founded in 1954 by members of the Royal Society. Its first president was Sir Mark Oliphant. The Academy was organized along the lines of the British Royal Society. Seat of the Academy is "Shine Dome" in Canberra.

In Australia, also have the Australian Academy of the Humanities, established the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia and the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering as a science academy. The four academies are cooperating since 1995 in the " National Academies Forum ".

Organization

The Academy consists of one elected by the members of the "Council ", which leads into office and is supervised by an " Executive Committee" under the academy president Suzanne Cory.
