The Accra Sports Stadium (2004-2010 Ohene Djan Stadium, English Ohene Djan Stadium ) is a 40,000 comprehensive football stadium in Accra, Ghana.

Name

Originally it was called the Accra Sports Stadium, until it was Ohene Djan after 2004, the first director of sport in the country named. The name change was controversial, especially among the Ga in Accra, in whose eyes a central structure in capital would have been the appropriate place to honor a prominent Ga. Despite the controversy, the stadium is generally regarded as the national stadium. In 2010, the return notification was carried out in its present name.

Use

The two popular clubs Hearts of Oak SC and Great Olympics at the Ohene Djan Stadium carrying out their home games. Occasionally there also plays the Ghanaian national team.

The Ohene Djan Stadium, there were nine games of the Africa Cup 2000 held in Ghana and Nigeria. Even the final of the Africa Cup 1978 was held in the then Accra Sports Stadium. In May 2001, it was there during a game to a stampede in which 126 people lost their lives.

For the African Nations Cup in 2008, the stadium was modernized and converted to FIFA standards. After completion of construction in October 2007, the plant was opened with a football tournament among four nations ( the Zenith Cup), from Ghana emerged as the winner.
