Achey

Achey is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Achey is located at an altitude of 233 m above sea level, 15 km north of Gray and about 50 km northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the west of the department, in the northwest of the plateau landscape Saônetals, on a slightly inclined towards the south slope above the valley of the River Salon.

The area of ​​7.05 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the region of the plateau north of the Saônetals. From west to east, the area is crossed by the Talniederung of the salon, which provides for drainage Saône. The flood plain is, on average, 210 meters and has a maximum width of one kilometer. The valley is flanked on both sides by a plateau, which reaches an average height of 250 m. This plateau consists of an alternation of calcareous and sandy- marly sediments of the upper Jurassic and the Tertiary. In the Talniederung and on the plateau dominates agricultural use. In the south of the municipality floor extends to the Bois d' Écot (up to 250 m). To the north, the area on the plateaus of Les Chaillots and Grand Mouéron extends. The plateau of operation is broken by a Trockentalsystem ( Combe du Ru, Grandes Combes ), which belongs to the catchment area of ​​the salon. With 258 m is reached on a hill east of Grandes Combes the highest elevation of Achey.

History

The territory of Achey was settled very early. It pottery fragments were found from the Gallo-Roman times and a sarcophagus from the Merovingian time. Achey is mentioned as Ache, Aiche, Aichey, Acheium and Acheyo. Presumably, the place was already destroyed 880 of the Normans. In the Middle Ages Achey belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The noble family of Achey since the year 1137 has, but also the monastery Theuley had property and rights in place. It maintained until 1772 a blacksmith shop. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Achey is a member of the comprehensive 42 villages municipal association Communauté de communes des Quatre Rivières.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Martin shows different styles. The Gothic choir from the 14th century is the oldest part, it contains frescoes from the 15th century. The ship and the bell tower in the Imperial style date from the 18th century. In the village center are a Calvary and a Lavoir from the 19th century, which once served as a laundry and watering cattle. From the former stately home ruins are still preserved.

Population

With 72 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Achey one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. Throughout the 20th century a decline in population was recorded (1891 were still 184 persons counted ).

Economy and infrastructure

Achey is still a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are very few jobs in town. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road, leading from Dampierre- sur-Salon by Champlitte. Further road links exist with Oyrières and Courtesoult.
