Achiri

Achiri is a village in the department of La Paz in the South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Location in near space

Achiri is the central place of the canton Achiri in the district ( bolivian: Municipio) Caquiaviri in the province Pacajes. The village is located on the Bolivian altiplano at an altitude of 3900 m on one of the tributaries of the Río Desaguadero. Achiri is halfway between Lake Titicaca in the north and 95 km distant Nevado Sajama in the south, the highest with 6,542 m mountain in Bolivia.

Traffic network

Achiri is located 148 kilometers by road from La Paz, the capital of the department of the same name.

From La Paz leads the paved highway Ruta 2 to El Alto, from there the Ruta 19 in a southwesterly direction as asphalt road to Viacha, from there as dirt road about Caquiaviri after Achiri and on to Charaña to the Chilean border.

The part belonging to Achiri Canton had a population of 2,776 inhabitants in 2001. The population of the region belongs to especially the indigenous people of the Aymara.
