Ada Gospels

The Ada manuscript is a Carolingian illuminated manuscript, which is preserved in the city library Trier under the signature 22 ms. The Gospel Book is between the years 790 and 810, were probably produced in Aachen. It is considered a masterpiece of the Court School of Charlemagne.

It owes its name of the client Ada, which is referred to in various sources as the sister of Charlemagne and as abbess.

A number of other similar forms manuscripts are stylistically well to Ada Ada - group or school summarized as several ivory plaques that show similar stylistic features.

The text is written in uncial, Capitalis rustica and frühkarolingischer minuscule with gold ink. After several circumcisions, the code is 36.6 x 24.5 inches tall and includes 172 sheets with two columns of 32 lines.
