Adam Lonicer

Adam Lonitzer ( Lonicerus ) ( born October 10, 1528 Marburg, † May 29, 1586 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German naturalist, physician and botanist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Lonitzer ".

Life

The son of classical scholar John Marburger Lonicer was already at the age of 13 years, bachelor, and then studied at the University of Marburg, philosophy and medicine. 1545, he earned the Master of Arts. After teaching for some time in Frankfurt and in Friedberg ancient languages ​​, he turned from 1545 to 1553 in Frankfurt and Mainz medical studies and in 1553 received his doctorate to the Dr. med. In the same year he was at the University of Marburg professor of mathematics and Stadtphysikus 1554 in Frankfurt am Main. Also in 1554 he married Magdalena, daughter of the Frankfurt Book printer Christian Egenolff.

From 1550 Lonitzer dealt with herbals, where he described the plant, especially among medical and pharmaceutical aspects. He presented from older herb books together pictures and described the species, among other things, how to detect them and for common native plant species and locations. Printed books were Lonitzers only by his father or by Egenolffs death of his heirs.
