Adam Nelson

Adam Nelson (born 7 July 1975 Atlanta ) is a former American shot putter. He was world champion in 2005 and subsequently 2004 Olympic gold medalist.

Life

Characteristic for his eccentric behavior in the competition was the opposite to the running- repelling surface and the lightning throwing his shirt before he enters the shot put ring. So he offered the audience a special spectacle, which was first awarded in 2005 at the World Championships in Helsinki by winning a title in international competitions.

Previously, he was repeatedly unhappy Second: At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 and at the 2004 Games in Athens he won a silver medal. At the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton and the 2003 World Championships in Paris, he was also silver medalist. Also at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka, he had to turn settle for a second place.

At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 he managed, after a sprain in the final a valid attempt. In Berlin, he came at the World Championships in 2009 to fifth place and 2011 in Daegu, he reached eighth place. 2012 Nelson tried to qualify for his fourth Olympic Games, but failed at the U.S. Trials.

In December 2012, the IOC withdrew from the Olympic champion from 2004 Jurij Bilonoh for doping the medal. Thus Adam Nelson was subsequently Olympic gold medalist who also declared his retirement from competitive sports.

Adam Nelson had a competition weight of 115 kg at a height of 1.83 m.
