Adin is a village on the community- free area in Modoc County, California.

Location

Adin is located in a valley in northeastern California on the southern edge of the Modoc County and is adjacent to the south to the neighboring Lassen County. Through the village of Ash Creek flows in a westerly direction. By Adin leads the California State Route 299, the Northern California crosses from west to east and runs from Arcata on the Pacific coast about Redding to Alturas and Cedarville, near the Nevada border. In Adin crosses the CA 299, CA 139, which results in north-south direction of Tulelake on the border with Oregon to Susanville in Lassen County.

South of the village is " Adin Airport " with a 900 m long runway, the nearest city is Alturas, 50 km as the crow northeast of Adin.

History

The town was founded in 1869 by Adin McDowell and named in 1870 following after him. The oldest building in the village are the " Adin Community Bible Church " from 1888 and the " Old General Store " from the year 1906.

Population

The population of the town has increased by about 8 % in the current decade, from 599 inhabitants ( 2000 census ) to 646 residents ( update 2007). The average age of the population is 43.3 years, a high value compared to the California average of 33.3 years.

The 599 inhabitants of Adin lived in the 2000 census in 257 households, of which 59.5 % single and 26.8% married couples with children under 18 years. 93.7 % of the population were white, 0.3% African American, and 5.7 % Latino.

17.2% of the local population live below the poverty line. Among young people under 18, the proportion is 27.7 %, with the seniors over 65, the proportion is 7.5%.

The village has a high proportion of residents of ethnic German origin: 98 of the 599 inhabitants trace their ancestry back to German immigrants. Of the current twenty-five foreigners in Adin born 20 in Mexico, three in Germany and two in other Western European countries.
