Adirondack Frostbite

The Adirondack Frostbite were an American ice hockey team from Glens Falls, New York. The team played from 1999 to 2006 in the United Hockey League.

History

The franchise of the Winston -Salem IceHawks of the United Hockey League was founded in 1999 by Winston -Salem, North Carolina, to Glens Falls, New York, relocated and renamed Adirondack IceHawks. There they replaced the Adirondack Red Wings of the American Hockey League. During the seven years of its existence, the team was one of the most consistent in the league. In the years 2001 and 2005 they finished their division respectively in the first place. In the playoffs, they reached in the 2000 /01 season the second round, where they were subject to the New Haven Knights in the best- of-five series with 2:3 victories. In summer 2004, the ESPN commentator Steve Levy and former NHL player Barry Melrose bought the franchise and renamed it in Adirondack Frostbite.
