Adolf Martin Pleischl

Adolf Martin Pleischl ( born October 10, 1787 Hossenreith, Bohemia, † July 31, 1867 in village on the Enns ) was a chemist and physician.

Life

Pleischl was born the son of poor parents in the small village Hossenreith at Oberplan. In 1803 he attended the Academic Gymnasium in Prague and studied philosophy here since 1806, then from 1809 Medicine. In 1815 he became a doctor of medicine and devoted himself, in addition to the doctor's office to the study of chemistry. 1821 to 1838 he held the post of professor of general and pharmaceutical chemistry at the University of Prague. During this time he acquired great contributions to the redesign of the chemical-pharmaceutical institute and training efficient chemist (eg Johann August Natterer, Johann Florian Heller). In 1838 he was appointed to Vienna. Here he designed the chemical-pharmaceutical establishment along modern lines. In 1848 he was surprising and humiliating forced into retirement. In 1849 he was appointed Imperial Councillor and honored in later years with the Knight's Cross of the Franz Joseph Order. His daughter Mary was married to the famous physician Johann von Oppolzer.

In 1949 in Vienna Simmering ( 11th district ) was named the Pleischlgasse after him.

Services

He carried out the first analysis of water ( Moldova, wells, tap water) of Prague. His analyzes of the thermal springs of the West Bohemian spas contributed significantly to the revival of the Czech spas. He was an avid recruiter for the spa treatment in Karlovy Vary, Marianske Lazne, Lazne and Teplitz. In order to enforce the export of the Karlovy Vary thermal spring water to Pleischl made ​​a special contribution. The shipment of bottled water and soft drinks products was for the city soon became a fruitful source of income. He made ​​a significant contribution by the invention of health harmless email, is lined with the metal utensils for corrosion protection. He performed the first experiments on the liquefaction of carbon dioxide by means of pressure and low temperature, these were only completed by his pupil Johann August Natterer with success.
