Adolphe Gesché

Adolphe gift ( born October 25, 1928 in Brussels, † 30 November 2003 in Louvain- la -Neuve ) was a Belgian Roman Catholic priest and theologian. He was professor of dogmatic theology at the Theological Faculty of the Catholic University of Louvain (UCL ) in Louvain- la -Neuve and the author of several theological publications.

Biography

Adolphe gift was born into a liberal Catholic family. He put his Abitur at the Collège Saint- Pierre at Uccle from, began at age 18 to study at the Facultés unversitaires Saint -Louis in Brussels and acquired there after two years of study as a candidate in philosophy. In 1949, after completing his military service, he met to be the decision priests. Subsequently, he earned a degree in classical philology at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and studied at the same time - from 1951 - theology at the seminary in Mechelen. In 1955 he was ordained a priest. He continued his theological studies continued in Leuven, where he first earned the degree of doctor of theology, then in 1962 as Maître agrégé complete his studies in the same subject. From 1962-1969 he taught at the seminary in Mechelen, was then appointed to the University of Leuven as a full professor.

Teaching and work

Adolphe gift coined as a university teacher generations of students from Europe, America and Africa, through its teaching and research. He followed closely the situation of Christianity and has developed in a conscious examination of the tax wedge on belief in god concepts his theology. His work went beyond that of theology. He dedicated all his life for a better understanding and relationship between faith and contemporary culture, with the aim to create more sustainable models of faith. His writings cover a considerable number of different topics and are largely in his collection Dieu pour penser ( German = God to think ) had been added.

1970 He was a founding member of the executive committee of Louvain Theological Revue théologique de Louvain.

In 1991, he launched the taking place today in the two yearly intervals interdisciplinary colloquia Colloques happen at the Theological Faculty of Louvain -la -Neuve in collaboration with Paul Scola to life. In these events faith and life issues should be debated in discussion with other disciplines.

Geshe's grave is in the cemetery of Blocry in Ottignies, near Louvain- la -Neuve.

Awards

Gifts received numerous awards. He was a member of the Commission "Religion and Theology " of the National Fund for Scientific Research (Belgium ) and the European Society for Catholic Theology ( Tübingen). He was appointed by the Holy See to the International Theological Commission (until 2002) 1992. In 1993 he received the Prix Cardinal Mercier from the Institut supérieur de philosophie of the University of Leuven. In 1997 he received the award for his life work Scriptores Christianized and the following year in Paris, the Grand prix de philosophie by the Académie française.

He was a member of the Royal Academy of Belgium and Grand Officer of the Crown.
