Adrenomedullin

Adrenomedullin (ADM, adrenal medulla of, adrenal medulla, where it was first found ) is a peptide that was discovered in 1993. The human ADM gene is located on chromosome 11 and encodes the precursor protein pro- ADM 185 amino acids arises from the post-translational modification by ADM and PAMP. The ADM - peptide consists of 52 amino acids and has strong similarity to CGRP ( calcitonin gene-related peptide) and amylin.

Adrenomedullin is made, inter alia in the adrenal medulla, kidney and lungs and in failing heart. It acts as a vasodilator and affects multiple systems such as circulatory, heart, hormone secretion and respiration.
