Agenioideus

Agenioideus sp.

Agenioideus is a genus of Wegwespen ( Pompilidae ). In Europe, 21 species occur.

Features

The species of the genus Agenioideus is small to medium sized Wegwespen, with different physiques. Head and thorax are finely structured. The inner edges of the large compound eyes are down slightly divergent. The end plate ( Clypeus ) is short and wide, more or less convex, and the apical edge is truncated, or more or less concave. The labrum is partially or completely covered by the faceplate. The mandibles are pointed and have one or two additional teeth. The Metapostnotum is highly visible and usually about the same length as the metanotum. The propodeum is increasingly curved backwards, it has either oblique grooves or dense coat silvery. The wings are tinted more or less brown, the Flügelmal ( pterostigma ) is large. It is the same length or longer than the cross- vein 2r -rs. The legs are spined, a Tarsalkamm is formed is in some species but unimpressive. The Tarsenglieder and the claws are extended and have erect, pointed teeth. In the males, the visible part of subgenital plate is folded longitudinally or nearly flat. The claws of the Vordertarsen are asymmetrical, the inner one is bidentate, the outer has one tooth.

Way of life

The wasps mainly colonize open and sunny habitats. The females lay their nests in pre-existing cavities or dig it into the ground. The cells are sealed with either excavation, which is scraped off with the front legs, or there is other material brought in on the mandibles. The prey is paralyzed for a short time. The brood is supplied with spiders from the families Agelenidae, Araneidae, Dysderidae, Linyphiidae, Philodromidae, Pisauridae, Salticidae, Segestriidae, Thomisidae and Titanoecidae.
