The Ordinary Ageratum ( Ageratum houstonianum ) is a plant from the sunflower family ( Asteraceae).

Features

The Ordinary Ageratum is a perennial, herbaceous plant or a dwarf or semi- shrub. He attained stature heights of 15 to 60 centimeters. The leaves are heart-shaped, pitted network annoying and pubescent. The leaf margin is notched or wavy. The narrow lanceolate bracts are acuminate, denticulate only at the top and glandular hairy. The flower heads are short-stalked. Without the long scar their diameter is 8 to 14 millimeters. The corolla tube is white green and light blue coronet.

The flowering period extends from May to November.

Occurrence

The species occurs in southeastern Mexico, in Guatemala and Belize. They became naturalized beyond. Across much of the tropics and the southern United States Their habitat are pastures, moist clearings and thickets at altitudes of 1000 meters.

Use

The Ordinary Ageratum is widely used as an ornamental plant for summer borders and window boxes, high grades and as cut flowers. The species is grown as an annual. There are numerous varieties whose crowns dark blue, purple, pink, and can be white. High varieties reach heights of growth to 60 centimeters.
