Ahmed Zaki Yamani

Ahmed Zaki Yamani (Arabic: أحمد زكي يماني, DMG Aḥmad Zakī Yamani; * June 30, 1930 in Mecca, Saudi Arabia) is a Saudi Arabian politician and lawyer.

Life

With degrees from New York University School of Law and Harvard Law School and a Ph.D. from the University of Exeter in 1958 Yamani adviser to the Saudi government.

On March 9, 1962, he became the second oil minister in the history of Saudi Arabia until he was released on October 5, 1986 by King Fahd.

Yamani was instrumental during his tenure as oil minister in the activities of OPEC, especially the oil embargo 1973. 1975 Yamani was one of the hostages held by the OPEC hostage taking.
