Air Ã…land

Air Åland is a former ålandische airline based in Mariehamn. Currently, it markets the flights of Nextjet in the province of Åland.

History

Air Åland was founded in January 2005. She pursued different routes to Finland and Sweden. These included flights to Stockholm -Arlanda Airport, Turku and Helsinki.

The flights to Helsinki were set on May 28, 2012, as the line was due to a deficit by competition from Flybe Nordic since November 2011. The route was operated by Nextjet on behalf of Air Åland. This was made possible by the collapse of the Swedish airline Skyways, which was very active in domestic traffic. This had other regional providers, as well Nextjet, in Sweden, a sharply rising demand, which Nextjet was ready to cancel the contract with Air Åland without any further requirements to use the freed-up capacity elsewhere. The remaining flights were taken over on 1 July 2012 by Nextjet so that Air Åland has no aircraft operated more.

Air Åland transported 2008, a total of 61,000 passengers to and from Mariehamn.
