Air Force Intelligence Directorate

The Office for aerial reconnaissance (Arabic إدارة المخابرات الجوية Idarat al - Muchābarāt al - dschawwiyya, DMG Idarat al - Muhabarat al - ǧawwīya ) is the most powerful intelligence agency of Syria. It was founded in 1963.

The main task of this service is not in the information gathering for the Syrian air forces, as the name might suggest. The name of the service is rather back to the fact that the future president Hafez al -Assad was commander of the Syrian air force and occupied after his seizure of power in 1970 the news service of its strike force targeted with confidants and friends to rapidly expand it to a full-fledged news service.

Known operations of the service:

• Destruction of the radical religious international organization Islamic Liberation Front " Hizb ut- Tahrir "

• Attempted bombing of 18 April 1986 on a El- Al plane at London Heathrow (so-called Hindawi affair), which led to the breaking off of diplomatic relations between London and Damascus.

The head of service was 29 years since 1970 for Major General Muhammad al- Chuli. The importance of the service is reflected by the fact that al - Chulis neighboring office in the presidential palace was the office of Assad. The current leader is General Ibrahim Huwaidschi.
