Akoubounou

Region

Akoubounou is a rural municipality in the department of Abalak in Niger.

Geography

Akoubounou located in the northern Sahel. The neighboring municipalities are Abalak in the northeast, Azèye the southeast, Ibohamane in the south, Tabalak in the southwest and Kao in the northwest. The municipality is divided into 17 administrative villages, 18 traditional villages, nine villages and three camps. The main town of the country church is the administrative village Akoubounou. It is also home Ait - Awari.

History

The rural community Akoubounou went as an administrative unit 2002 through the course of a nationwide administrative reform a part of a previously unincorporated area.

Population

At the 2001 census Akoubounou had 10,348 inhabitants. For the year 2010 13.912 inhabitants were calculated.

Culture and sights

Every two years, the camel festival held in Shiriken Akoubounou.

Economy and infrastructure

The community is located at the junction of the zone of Agropastoralismus of the South to the zone of pure pastoral economy of the North. By Akoubounou the National Road 25, which connects the town via Abalak with the regional capital Agadez and via Tabalak with the regional capital Tahoua runs.
