Al Coates (ice hockey)

Al Coates ( born December 3, 1945 in Listowel, Ontario ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey official in the National Hockey League.

Career

Coates began his career in the National Hockey League at the beginning of the 1970s when the Detroit Red Wings. He then moved in 1979 to the Calgary Flames, where he held various positions until 2000. He worked between 1995 and 2000 as general manager of the Flames.

In 2003, he joined the franchise of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, for which he worked as a Senior Advisor from 2004 until 2005 as General Manager. The Canadian was appointed in June 2008 to the Player Personnel Director of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

In January 2009, Al Coates by the general manager of the Leafs, Brian Burke, relieved and discharged his duties. He received in 2006 the Thomas Ebright Award for his services in the American Hockey League.
