Al-Watan (Syria)

Al Watan (Arabic: الوطن, DMG al - Watan ) is a private newspaper published daily from Syria, which is currently regarded as close to the government.

The newspaper is published by the Syrian Arab Publishing and Distributing Company, its owner is Rami Machluf. The editor and publisher in the founding of the newspaper was Waddah Abd Rabbuh.

History

Al Watan was founded in November 2006 as the first private newspaper in Syria since 1963. In February 2007, the circulation was 22,000 and in 2010 the paper was sold to five Syrian liras per issue.

In the wake of protests in Syria from 2011 the newspaper was briefly banned, allowed on the same day but again. The editor called all readers pathetic on the armed opposition groups everywhere, "on the street, in the mosques, in cafés, on the Internet" to counter.

With continuation of the protests, the tide was fully in September the government line. The events were an international conspiracy. In July 2012, al Watan wrote to the battle in Aleppo " Aleppo will be the last battle of the Syrian army to defeat the terrorists. "
