Alain Boublil

Alain Boublil ( born March 5, 1941 in Tunis, Tunisia ) is a French musical author.

Life

The native Tunisians moved at the age of 18 years to Paris and began to work as a music producer and write lyrics for French pop songs. In 1973, he co-wrote with Jean -Max Rivière texts to his first musical La Révolution Française. This work brought Boublil, with the composer Claude- Michel Schönberg.

With a trip to London in 1978, came to him during a visit of the musical Oliver! the idea of ​​writing a musical version of Victor Hugo's novel Les Misérables. Together with Jean -Marc Natel, he wrote the lyrics, the music by Claude- Michel Schönberg. 1980 Les Misérables was premiered in Paris. 1985 brought Boublil and Schönberg, together with Cameron Mackintosh, the Boublil had previously met two years ago when he had him committed for the ABBA musical Abbacadabra, Les Misérables in London's West End on the stage.

The successful cooperation with Schoenberg was continued in 1989, when in London, the musical Miss Saigon premiered. The 1996 premiered Musical Martin Guerre wrote Boublil again along with Schoenberg. The latest musical team of authors Boublil / Schönberg is titled The Pirate Queen and was premiered on October 3, 2006 in Chicago.

In addition to working as a musical Boublil author has also written the play Le Journal d' Adam et Eve, based on two short stories by Mark Twain ( 1994). In 2002 his first novel Les Dessous de soi was published, which was awarded the Prix du Prince Maurice Roman d' Amour 2003. He has also written a stage adaptation of Jacques Demy's novel Les Demoiselles de Rochefort together with composer Michel Legrand, which premiered in September 2003. Alain Boublil now lives in London.
