Albert II, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg

Albrecht II (* unknown at or prior to 1268, † September 22, 1318 ), Duke of Brunswick- Lüneburg was Prince of Brunswick- Wolfenbüttel -Göttingen and fats, Feiste or was called in Latin pinguis.

Life

Albrecht was the second son of Duke Albrecht the Great and his wife Adelaide of Montferrat († 1285). After the death of his father in 1279, he stood with his brothers William and Henry initially under the tutelage of his mother and his uncle, the Bishop Konrad von Verden. Soon then his brother Henry took control for himself and his two brothers until 1286 came the division of the inheritance.

The reign of Albrecht comprised the former northeimischen areas of the Duchy, also the upper forest area to which the cities of Göttingen, Munden, who scored Pfalz Grona, Northeim and the land between the Deister and leash and Kalenberg with Hannover. 1303 he acquired Nienover. As a seat of power Albrecht chose the castle Bollruz (also Ballerhus ) in Göttingen.

After the death of his brother William in 1292 it came to a fight with his brother Henry on the Site. Albrecht was buried in Brunswick Cathedral.
