Albert V, Duke of Saxe-Lauenburg

Albrecht V of Saxe- Lauenburg (* 1335, † 1370 ) was from 1356 to 1370 Duke of Saxe- Lauenburg. He reigned over the subregion Mölln and Bergedorf, which was created in 1305 when the real division of the Duchy. Albrecht's father was Albrecht IV of Saxe- Lauenburg, Albrecht took over the government but by his prematurely deceased brother John III.

Albrecht's reign was burdened by high debt. That's why he sold in 1359, in agreement with his brother Eric, the Bailiwick, and city customs office Mölln for 9,737 ½ marks to the Hanseatic city of Lübeck. However, he reserved to himself a right of repurchase. Just one year later, in 1360, to high debt had again accumulated, so that he made a further pledge. This time he took money from Duke Erich II of Saxe - Lauenburg, who ruled over the other half of the Duchy, and sat for his residence, the Bergedorf Castle, as a security. These two pledges led under Erich IV and V. Erich for war with Lübeck and Hamburg, and in the permanent loss of that half of the duchy.

The lack of money drove Albrecht seem to find other forms of income; quickly as he had the reputation of favoring muggers and even to accommodate you in Bergedorf Castle. Thus, the surrounding towns joined together to conquer the Bergedorf Castle and grind. This plan was dropped because Albrecht could communicate with the cities.

A marriage with Catherine of Werle - Güstrow, which took place on January 25, 1366, remained childless. When Albrecht died in 1370 followed because of his brother Erich III. in the after regency.
