Alberto Castagnetti

Alberto Castagnetti ( born February 3, 1943 in Verona, † 12 October, 2009 Arbizzano ) was an Italian swimmer and swimming coach.

Career

Castagnetti was as a relay swimmer 1968-1977 nine-time Italian champion. In 1971 he was a member of the Italian 4 × 100-meter freestyle relay that won the silver medal at the Mediterranean Games in Izmir. The following year he took the freestyle relay at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich in 1973 and part of the first World Swimming Championships in Belgrade.

In 1987, he, the Italian Swimming Federation as manager and he remained until his death in this function. During this time he led, among other things, Giorgio Lamberti, Domenico Fioravanti and Federica Pellegrini to world titles and Olympic victories.

On September 8, 2009, he had to undergo heart surgery. A month later, he died at the age of 66 at his home in Arbizzano.
