Alberto Romulo

Alberto Gatmaitan Romulo ( born August 7, 1933, Camiling, Tarlac province ) is a Filipino politician and Minister of Foreign Affairs 2004-2011.

Biography

Romulo is a nephew of longtime Foreign Minister Carlos P. Romulo and cousin of the Minister of Foreign Affairs between 1992 and 1995, Roberto Romulo.

In 1987 he became a member of the Senate and belonged to this until 1998. He was from 1992 to 1996 as Majority Leader leader of the majority party in the Senate.

Immediately after the oath of office of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, he was appointed by the Minister of Finance on 20 January 2001. After only four months in office but he was replaced on 16 May, 2001 by Jose Isidro Camacho in this office.

On 18 August 2004, he was finally appointed as the successor of Delia Domingo -Albert as the new Secretary of State and shall exercise this office ever since. He is also a Board Member of the Academia Filipina de la Lengua Española, the main Academy for the preservation of the Spanish language in the Philippines. The Minister of Foreign Affairs he held until February 2011.
