Albin Nyamoya

Nyamoya Albin ( born July 27, 1924 in Mwumba, Ngozi, † 31 January 2001 ) was a Burundian politician. He was on April 6, 1964 to January 7, 1965 and July 15, 1972 to June 5, 1973 Prime Minister of Burundi.

Nyamoya studied from 1938 to 1944 in Butare (then Astrida, today in Rwanda) Veterinary Medicine, from 1945 he worked as a graduate veterinarian in the Department of Agriculture of the UN Trust Territory of Ruanda- Urundi. As of September 29, 1961, he was Minister of Agriculture and Livestock and was - after 1962, the independent state was founded as the Kingdom of Burundi - Minister of the Interior in March 1963. From 1964 to 1965 he was Prime Minister. In the following years he was again active in the Ministry of Agriculture in March 1970 and was Minister of Agriculture. From July 1972 to June 1973 he was again Prime Minister. He put himself in this short term for the reconciliation of Hutu and Tutsi, of which at unrest in the months before Nyamoyas took office, over 100,000 people were killed. From 1982 to 1987 he was Member of Parliament for his home province of Ngozi.

Nyamoya was married to Mélanie Sinduhije and had 10 children.
