Prince Louis Rwagasore

Louis Rwagasore ( born January 10, 1932 in Kitega, † October 13, 1961 ) was Prince of the Kingdom of Burundi Ganwa and a politician.

The son of the penultimate Burundian king, Mwambutsa IV Bangiriceng, founded the UPRONA, which should be the most important party in the country (though not in the form in which it was founded: At the beginning of the party was all ethnic groups open later converted it to yourself an extremist Tutsi party). He stood up for the independence of the Belgian colonialists. In 1961, he became Prime Minister after the UPRONA had clearly won the parliamentary elections. Two weeks after the election, he was assassinated by political opponents. His death is considered to be decisive for the decades of violence, the experienced Burundi since then.

The National Stadium Burundi ( Stade Prince Louis Rwagasore ) carries Rwagasores name today.
