Aleksis Kivi
Kivi [ ɑlɛksis kivi ], actually Alexis Stenvall ( born October 10, 1834 in Nurmijärvi, Finland, † December 31, 1872 in Tuusula ) was a Finnish national poet. He is considered the father of modern literature in Finnish. Earlier in his native Swedish literary language had been.
Life
The under his name fennisierten Kivi (Swedish Stenvall = " stone bench ", Finnish Kivi = "stone" ) famous writer was born as the youngest of five children. His parents, the tailor Eerik Stenvall and Anna- Kristiin, had at this time already has three sons and a daughter. He described himself later as a lively, imaginative, " cheerful and courageous " child and learned alongside Finnish and the Swedish language, which at that time dominated every "educated Finn ". After attending elementary school, he joined with twelve years (1846 ) to a school in Helsinki.
Kivi lived for a time at a tailor named Albin Palmqvist and used the free time almost exclusively for reading. With the five year older daughter Palmqvist, Albina, he spoke about the works of William Shakespeare, Cervantes, and Byron. Alexis fell in love with Albina, even wanted to marry (unconfirmed ), but Albina in 1853 went to Denmark and began to take morphine. During the following years Albina spent a lot of time out of the country, Kivi but met several times during their visits to Finland. Both never married. A number of Kivis female roles ( Liisa in Yö yes Päivä (1866 ), Elma in Kankurit (1866 ), Lea in Lea ( 1868) ) should reflect Albina.

Kivi's creative period lasted scarce ten years. The scathing criticism of his later world-famous novel The seven brothers robbed him of all courage. It was, inter alia, in 1870: "It is a ridiculous work and an eyesore of Finnish literature." He spent his last months of life in a nondescript, dark house in Syvälahti that reflects his lifelong nightmare " Homelessness and Poverty." The house belonged to his brother Albert Tuusulanjärvi Stenvall. He suffered from depression, pain and Bedrängnisanfällen and died on the last day of 1872 at the age of 38 years. Opera
Einojuhani Rautavaara wrote the opera " Kivi ", a portrait of the great Finnish national poet, which premiered as the main attraction of the Opera Festival 1997 in Finland Savonlinna.
