Ales Bialiatski

Ales Bjaljazki (White Russian Алесь Бяляцкі, Aliaksandr Bialiatski English; born September 25, 1962 in Wjartsilja, Soviet Union) is a Belarusian human rights activist.

Life

Bjaljazki received his doctorate at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus in literature.

In 1996 he founded Wesna support regardless of the danger and discrimination, an organization that political prisoners and their families. For this he was awarded the Homo Homini Award - 2005.

4 August 2011 Bjaljazki was arrested and three and a half months later, was sentenced on 24 November 2011 for tax evasion to four and a half years in a penal camp.
