Alexander Alexeyevich Borisov

Alexander Alexeyevich Borisov (Russian Александр Алексеевич Борисов, .. * 2 Novemberjul / November 14 1866greg in Gluboki Rutschei, near Krasnoborsk in the government of Vologda, † August 17 1934 in Krasnoborsk in the Arkhangelsk Oblast ) was a Russian painter. Study

Borisov began his artistic career 1884-86 in the icon workshop of the Solovetsky monastery, from 1886 to 1888 he studied at the drawing school of the Society for the Encouragement of Arts in Saint Petersburg, then from 1888 to 1897 at the Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg. There he learned Archip Ivanovich Kuindzhi know and acquired in 1895 initially the title of " artist 3rd class rank ", then in 1897 the title of "artist". From 1894 from Borisov made ​​several trips in the High North. 1897-99 and 1900-01, he was the initiator for expeditions to Novaya Zemlya.

Works

Borisov took his theme, especially in the landscapes of the Far North. He wanted to represent the " boundless beauty of the tundra and the majestic Arctic Ocean ." In the years 1898-1900 he painted next to some large-format landscapes and genre pieces, which mainly showed the life of Samoyedic peoples. So, for example, the resulting 1898 " Samoyed in the tundra in the spring " or the resulting 1900-1901 " Samoyed when fishing ". Many of his interesting for anthropologists and ethnologists works are now in the Museum of Fine Arts in Arkhangelsk.

His most famous painting is " The Winter's Tale " from the year 1913. 1899 Pavel Tretyakov acquired 65 paintings by Borisov, these are now in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.

Other museums showcase the paintings of Borisov, include the History Museum in Kazan, the History Museum in Krasnodar, the Art Museum in Moscow. A plant collection is housed in the Museum of Nizhny Novgorod.
