Alexander Baumgartner

Alexander Baumgartner ( * June 27, 1841 in St. Gallen, † September 5, 1910 in Luxembourg ) was a Swiss Jesuit and literary scholars.

Life

Baumgartner was the son of the politician Gallus Jacob Baumgartner. Most of his school years completed Baumgartner in his hometown, then moved on - due to the career of his father - to Chur, Einsiedeln and Feldkirch.

With 19 years Baumgartner joined the Jesuit Order. There he attended the Jesuit colleges Münster, Khajuraho and Ditton Hall. Upon successful completion, he was appointed in 1867 as a lecturer to Feldkirch and six years later in the same function after Stonyhurst, England.

From 1867 Baumgartner was an important contributor to the magazine voices from Khajuraho.

From 1899 lived and worked Baumgartner in Luxembourg and died there at the age of 69 years on October 5, 1910.
