Alexander Colwell White

Alexander Colwell White ( born December 12, 1833 in Kittanning, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, † June 11, 1906 in Brookville, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1885 and 1887 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Alexander White attended the common schools and the Jacksonville Institute and the Dayton Union Academy. In the meantime, he taught himself as a teacher. In 1860 he moved to Jefferson County. After studying law and his 1862 was admitted to the bar he began to work in Punxsutawney in this profession. During the Civil War he served for some time in the army of the Union. He later moved to Brookville, where he practiced law. During 1867 and 1870 he was elected district attorney. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party.

In the congressional elections of 1884 White was in the 25th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Democrat John Denniston Patton on March 4, 1885. Since he resigned in 1886 to further candidacy, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1887. After his time in the U.S. House of Representatives White worked as a lawyer again. In the meantime, he also served as a justice of the peace in the town of Rose. He died on June 11, 1906 near Brookville, where he was also buried.
