Alexius Meinong
Alexius Meinong Knights of Handschuchsheim ( born July 17, 1853 in Lviv, † November 27, 1920 in Graz ) was an Austrian philosopher and psychologist, best known for his theory of objects, which is dominated by the ideas of his teacher Franz Brentano.
Alexius Meinong holds a doctorate in history at the University of Vienna, which he referred in the autumn of 1870, then turned, however, after he signed in the fall of 1874 as a regular listener to the law school, the end of the winter semester 1874/75 the philosophy of Franz Brentano to. In 1878, he succeeds by Alois Riehl at the Karl- Franzens- University of Graz, where he was appointed in 1882 to a professorship in philosophy and in 1889 was appointed full professor. Until his death in 1920 he was in Graz, where he founded the Graz School called. 1886/87 he began experimental psychological exercises to hold and set to 1894, the first experimental psychology laboratory in Austria ( " Psychological Laboratory of the University of Graz "). His estate is located in the University Library of Graz.
Core idea of the theory of objects is that every act of perception and generally every experience is " intentional " in the sense that its contents are " directed at something", referring to an "object".
