Ali Laarayedh

Ali Larajedh (Arabic علي العريض, ʿ Alī al - ʿ DMG Arayyiḍ; born August 15, 1955 in Medenine ) is a Tunisian politician of the Islamist Ennahda movement. From February 22 2013 to January 9, 2014 he was prime minister.

Political career

In 1981 Larajedh was speaker of the Islamist Ennahda movement. Under President Zine el- Abidine Ben Ali, he was imprisoned in 1990 and sentenced to 15 years in prison.

After the loss of power of President Ben Ali due to mass protests ( "Jasmine Revolution") in early 2011 and the victory of the Islamists in the election to the Constituent Assembly, Larajedh took effect on December 20, 2011 the Cabinet of his party colleague Hamadi Jebali as interior minister in.

Following the resignation Jebalis Larajedh was appointed on 22 February 2013 his successor.

Larajedh is considered hardliners and rejects any participation of parties in politics from that played any role under Ben Ali.

On October 24, 2013 Larajedh announced his resignation. On January 9, 2014, he finished his post. His successor is the former Industry Minister Mehdi Jomaa.
