Ali Saibou

Ali Saibou [ ali sɛbu ] (* 1940 in Dingazi Banda, Ouallam, † October 31, 2011 in Niamey ) was a Nigerien politician and 1987-1993 President of his country. He belonged to the ethnic group of the Zarma and comes from the same village as Seyni Kountché.

Career

He was very early interested in a military career and attended from 1954 a military school in Senegal. He then joined the First Senegalese sharpshooters in the regiment. He was in Cameroon in use and was wounded there.

After the independence of Niger 1960 he was in the Nigerien army sergeant. He attended the military school, was in 1969 in command of a unit in N'Guigmi and 1973 about one in Agadez, where he was eventually promoted to captain. Saibou participated in the coup of 1974 Kountché and moved his unit to Niamey. As a reward, he was promoted to Major and appointed Minister for the rural economy, the climate and for assistance to the population, and on November 20, 1974 Personal Chef.
