Alia al-Hussein

Queen Alia al - Hussein (Arabic علياء الحسين, DMG ʿ Alya ʾ al -Husayn, born December 25, 1948 in Cairo, Egypt, as Alia Baha ad-Din Tuqan / علياء بهاء الدين طوقان / Alya ʿ ʾ ʾ ad - Dīn Bahā Tuqan; † February 9, 1977 in Jordan) was a queen in Jordan.

Family

She is the mother of Prince Ali bin al - Hussein and Princess Haya bint al - Hussein. She was the third wife of Hussein I of Jordan. She had three children with the king:

  • Princess Haya bint al - Hussein ( b. 1974 )
  • Prince Ali bin al - Hussein ( b. 1975 )
  • Abir (born 1972, adopted 1976).

Life

Alia was the daughter of Baha ad-Din Tuqan, a former ambassador and spent much of her childhood traveling. She attended with her younger brother Ali, the Church School in London and studied in Rome and Chicago, as well as political science, with minors in social psychology and public relations at Hunter College in New York. In 1971 she moved to Jordan, where he worked for the Royal Jordanian Airlines. During the preparations for the first International Water Skiing Festival in September 1972, she met the king and married him on 24 December 1972. Henceforth it was titled Queen Alia al - Hussein. Alia died in a helicopter crash in Amman. It was then in 1983 opened new Amman Airport to Alia named (Queen Alia International Airport).
