All People's Party (Nigeria)

The All People's Party (APP ) ( party all peoples ) from 1998 to 1999, a conservative political party in Nigeria.

Foundation

The party was founded in 1998 under the transitional government Abdulsalami Abubakars, of Nigeria after the death of military dictator Sani Abacha again should lead to a civilian government. It originated from different organizations who had received support from the military dictatorship. Most support the APP had in central Nigeria and parts of northern Nigeria.

In the gubernatorial elections in January 1999, the People's Democratic Party (PDP ) emerged as the most successful party. Following this, the APP and the Alliance for Democracy (AD ) formed a coalition and agreed to the presidential candidate Samuel Oluyemi Falae of the AD, while running mate was Umaru Shinkafi of the APP. In the elections of 20 February 1999, the APP won 74 of 360 House of Representatives and 29 of 109 Senate seats and profiled itself as the second-strongest political force.

Resolution

Falae defeated in the presidential elections, however, against Olusegun Obasanjo of the PDP.
