Allan Border

Allan Robert Border AO ( born July 27, 1955 in Sydney ) is a former Australian cricketer. From 1983 to 1993 he was captain of the Australian cricket team in 93 tests. He was elected in 1982 one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year.

Border is one of the eight batsmen who have scored more than 10,000 Test runs (points) in their career. In total he participated for the Australian team to 156 tests. He held for a time the record for most tests taken. This record has since been surpassed by Steve Waugh and Sachin Tendulkar. With 11,174 runs he held the world record for the most goals test runs. This was broken by Brian Lara in 2005. Under Borders leadership, the Australian cricket team developed its dominant role in cricket, who kept it until about 2008/2009. So it won under his leadership in 1987 Cricket World Cup. He also participated in three other Cricket World Cups (1979, 1983 and 1992) in part. A total of 273 completed Border One- Day International matches where he scored 6524 runs. He was the first player ever who played 200 One-Day Internationals.

Allan Border was named 1989 Officer of the Order of Australia. In January 1999, he was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame. In his honor, has been awarded since 2000, the Allan Border Medal for outstanding Australian cricketer.
