Alleghe

Alleghe ( Ladin Alie ) is a municipality with 1276 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Italian province of Belluno, Veneto region, southwest of Cortina d' Ampezzo. The name Alleghe is derived from the Latin alica (of alicarius = barn).

Geography

The place is situated on the same lake the south of Marmolada and Civetta in the northwest of the Dolomite Cordevole. The lake was formed on January 11, 1771 by a landslide on the nearby Monte Forca ( 2356 m slm; earlier Monte Piz called ). He buried the towns of Marin, reeds and Fusine among themselves, with the broken down debris dammed the stream, a depth of 18 meters and a length of 1500 m reached within only a few days. It further places ( Sommariva, Torre, Costa and Peron ) were flooded. The somewhat higher altitude place Alleghe (now eponymous for the community) was spared.

History

A settlement with a chapel already existed in the 12th century, it is mentioned in a papal bull of 1185. Before the landslide, the population settled in scattered villages in the valley and on the side slopes of the stream. Attractions

  • The San Biagio church was reconstructed in 1771 after the landslide. The defunct Gothic precursor ( consecrated in 1466 ) was itself built on the ruins of the chapel, which was mentioned in the papal bull of 1185. The interior is furnished with Baroque paintings and frescoes by Valentino Rovisi (1715-1783, from Moena, Tiepolo School ). The main altarpiece is the patron saint Blasius with Saints Mary Magdalen and John Nepomuk is, a ceiling fresco of the Judgment of Solomon.
  • In the Town Hall, a arazzo ( gobelinähnliches image ) of historical painter Kurt Geibel - Hellmeck ( feet, 1911-2005 ), depicting a meeting of a government delegation of the Republic of Venice with the guilds of Alleghe in 1571 is located.
  • The parish church of the district Caprile ( S. Bartolomeo ) dates from the 15th century. It contains paintings by Karl Henrici ( Schweidnitz, 1737-1823 ) as well as an organ of 1660.

Tourism

The first hotel developed in the 19th century in Caprile. For hikers there were the first huts in the area of ​​the Marmolada and Civetta. With lifts and trails are now in the Civetta huts Rifugio Sonino al Coldai, Rifugio Tissi, Rifugio Torrani and Rifugio Mario Vazzoler popular destinations.
